MiniFinder Pico GPS Review

Because this is not a wearable, I’d like to start with a brief message. I’m going to be doing this review a little different than usual. The MiniFinder Pico – which is what I’m reviewing – is a small GPS tracker that can be used worldwide to track, well, just about anything. Except you don’t wear it. Not on your wrist, and not on your person. It does have space to hook a lanyard to the device if you want to wear it around your neck or something, but for the most part, it will sit inside your pocket or bag. That’s why all the fuss. MiniFinder Pico GPS Tracker Review Overall MiniFinder Pico GPS Review Overall: (4/5) Tracking: (5/5) Build: (4/5) Compatibility: (4/5) Mobile App: (4/5) Sometimes, you just need to be able to track a person, item, or vehicle. You probably don’t have hundreds – or maybe even thousands – to spend on an advanced GPS system. You could opt for a smartwatch with integrated GPS, but most wearables aren’t designed with tracking in mind. It’s much smarter – and more efficient – to go with something that was specifically built to be tracked and monitored remotely. The MiniFinder Pico GPS Tracker is that something. It comes in the form of a small handheld device or module – available in several colors by the way – that you can ping from a mobile app. MiniFinder bills it as a “GPS Tracker for Children, Elderly, Dementia Patient, etc…” It’s about the size of a key fob or the electronic keyless entry tool you get with most vehicles. There’s a...

Best Smartwatches for Android 2017

Some of the major brands are still releasing updated versions of their past smartwatches, and we absolutely love it. For the longest time naysayers were claiming wearables would fade quickly, but if there’s one thing we’ve come to realize since then, it’s that wearables are here to stay. Maybe not in the same form or style, but they’re not going anywhere. Of course, nearly everyone knows about – or has heard of – the Apple Watch. It’s a great, albeit pricey example of what smartwatches can do. Sadly, it’s only compatible with iOS and that means iPhones and iPads. If you have another type of phone – like Android – you’re out of luck… or are you? There are a variety of smartwatches for Android, some even released this year. Whether you’re looking for new or old, expensive or cheap, we have just the list for you. The Best Smartwatches for Android 2017 Looking for a great smartwatch that works with Android, specifically one launched closer to 2017? Then you’ve come to the right place! Thanks to the launch of Android Wear 2.0 back in February, the Android Wear platform is one of the best on any wearable on the market. But the operating system is only so good as the hardware it runs on, so let’s take a look at some. Shall we? Here are the best smartwatches for Android in 2017: LG Watch Sport Huawei Watch 2 Samsung Gear S3 Asus Zenwatch 3 ZTE Quartz Want to know a...

2017: The Best Smartwatches for Women

This list has been updated for 2017, complete with new smartwatches for women. Latest Update: February, 2017 Don’t take this as an insult, because I don’t intend it to be. Most smartwatches available today just weren’t designed to accommodate unisex sizes, nor are they appealing to women or those with feminine tastes. Just take a look at some of the watches on store shelves and you’ll see how bulky, and unattractive they can be. Our own Lawrence Bradford discussed the struggles she had while trying to find a smartwatch. Frankly, a woman’s wrist is often smaller and her tastes are much different than that of a man’s; certainly one so invested in the tech market. The good news is that issue is starting to dissipate, slowly but surely. No one has come up with a viable design for women just yet, but manufacturers have been much better at creating unisex style devices. The Best Smartwatches for Women: Updated for 2017 There are some unisex watches that are acceptable. The Moto 360, for example, while still relatively bulky looks sleek and stylish. The real allure is that you can choose from a dozen wrist straps to match your tastes. If you don’t see something you like on the Motorola website, there’s no need to fret. It uses a standard size band measurement so you can swap the stock band out for almost any strap of your choosing. This is great not just in terms of style, but also when it comes to comfort. You may not like the band that comes with the watch, but you can easily install one that...

The Best GPS Trackers and Senior Wearables: Updated February, 2017

This list has been updated for 2017, complete with new senior wearables and GPS location trackers. Latest Update: February, 2017 Did you know there are senior wearables with built-in alerts that can reach out to emergency services in the event of an accident? You might have heard about medical alert buttons before, but they’re pretty ugly. But there’s no denying they are a great failsafe, especially for the elderly who spend time alone in a single family home or apartment. There is a more convenient solution, and it doesn’t look as gaudy as a large red button hanging from your neck. We’re talking about senior wearables and location trackers designed for this exact purpose. Thanks to the popularity of smartwatches and similar devices, many forms of tech are being slimmed down into wearable form. Gadgets like smartwatches, HD action cameras, lifeloggers, augmented reality glasses and more. It’s no surprise that medical alert devices are compacted and upgraded with better features. The Best Senior Wearables and GPS Trackers There are many cognitive and degenerative illnesses that call for constant supervision. Those suffering are prone to wander or become disoriented, sometimes so much they roam where no one can find them. In other cases, a senior may simply live alone, far from a neighbor or family. That’s where GPS trackers and senior wearables come in handy. Trackers give them and their loved ones peace of mind. Why are They Necessary? Many seniors prefer to be independent, living in a home or apartment they’ve known for years. The problem with this is if anything were to happen nobody would know, or it...

Cheap Smartwatches for Geeks on a Budget: Updated March, 2017

This list has been updated for 2017, complete with more cheap smartwatches. Latest Update: March, 2017 It’s tough to find good-quality, cheap smartwatches. After the launch of the Apple Watch, the smartwatch market changed a bit. Now, here we are, years later, with a new Apple Watch (Series 2) and several new smartwatch brands. It’s not any better off — or worse — just different. That’s because there’s more competition in the space even among the list of cheap smartwatches. The Apple Watch is great and resonates well with fans. Many have been waiting patiently for a decent smartwatch that’s compatible with iOS. But, there’s no denying the price is a little steep. The cheapest model — the Apple Watch Sport — costs $349. That’s a lot of money for a device you don’t need. Why would we say that? Well, because you don’t need a smartwatch to get by. You can make the argument you don’t need a smartphone either. But you can use a smartphone without anything else. Most smartwatches need a connected phone or they lose functionality. The good news is, if you don’t care about bleeding edge products you can get a smartwatch for cheap. Motorola, LG, Samsung and even Pebble Huawei, have delivered some competitive prices in recent years. If you’re wondering what some of those cheap smartwatches are, you’ve come to the right place! That’s what we’re going to take a look at. Cheap Smartwatches Under $200 We’ll do our best to provide several different cheap smartwatches – cheaper than the Apple Watch anyway. That way everyone should be able to find something. Sony...

The Best GPS Tracking Watches for Kids: Updated February, 2017!

This list has been updated for 2017, complete with new GPS tracking watches for kids. Latest Update: February 6th, 2017 One of our most successful articles here at Smartwatches is our list of the best smartwatches for children. In that list is a wide variety of devices from entertainment wearables, to full-on GPS tracking watches for kids. Strapping a wearable with tracking support to your child’s wrist makes a lot of sense, especially when it allows you to monitor their current location and habits in real-time. In the past, it was perfectly acceptable to allow your children free roam of the neighborhood without supervision. Parents would usually set a dinner curfew and children were expected to return at the appropriate time. The world isn’t so forgiving anymore, at least it sure doesn’t seem to be. Every day we hear stories about children being abducted, going missing or being involved in some kind of accident. As a parent, you can never be too safe with your child. That’s why we’re going to take a look at some of the best GPS tracking watches for kids. Some things to note first: There are no truly “tamper-proof” models it seems. Most include a silicone band that can be easily removed. Some of the devices do have tamper alerts to let you know if the child – or someone else – tries to remove it, but there’s nothing stopping them from doing so. Pay attention to the GPS limitations. If the device is SIM-enabled and has an active subscription it can usually be tracked anywhere, even internationally. If the device does not connect to mobile networks, range is...

The Best Standalone Smartwatch Options To Shed Your Phone: Updated March, 2017

This list has been updated for 2017, complete with new standalone smartwatch models. Latest Update: March, 2017 Smartwatches can pair with your phone to deliver notifications, alerts and messages on your wrist. So, if you’re wearing a smartwatch, you can keep your phone in your pocket, on a counter, or where you decide to. But, as good as that setup is, you still need to have a smartphone. Worse yet, if your smartwatch and phone are not near each other you lose functionality on the watch. That’s no fun and it ruins the point of having “smart” devices. There is a solution. You can buy a standalone smartwatch and bypass the smartphone requirement. What Is a Standalone Smartwatch? A standalone smartwatch includes all the functionality of a smartphone built-in. Generally, they connect to 3G or 4G mobile networks and take a SIM card. Standalone devices will connect to a network and update messages, alerts and notifications on their own. In this way, you are not forced to use a smartphone with them if you do not want to. Many standalone watches can make and receive calls, just like a phone. They can also be used to browse the web, though the small display is not convenient for such a thing – but it’s still possible. Standalone smartwatch models often provide the best of both worlds, and will work with a paired phone too. The Best Standalone Smartwatch Options Available So, what are some standalone smartwatch models on the market? What are your options, and which devices allow you to take advantage of this functionality? Below is a list of the best...
