Does A Samsung Watch Work With An iPhone?

When searching for smartphone accessories, people tend to look for items with the same manufacturers. It assures them that it will work with their phones, allowing the devices to perform in full capacity. There are misconceptions that a Samsung Watch can only be paired with phones created by the same company. The same thing goes with other brands.

However, it is not always the case. Connecting two devices with different brands and even different operating systems is still possible. Most android powered devices are compatible with each other. The tricky part is pairing android phones and smartwatches with iPhones and Apple Watches.

Apple has an operating system that gives them a certain exclusivity, and Apple Watch can only be paired with iPhones. But, an iPhone can work with other smartwatches like Samsung Watch.

How to Connect Samsung Watch with iPhone

Smartwatches are connected with phones through apps. For iPhone users, you must install the Watch app to pair your Apple Watch. For Samsung users, you need the Galaxy Watch app. Having said that, which app will be used to pair a Samsung Watch with an iPhone?

The answer is the one that corresponds to your smartwatch. Therefore, you should have the Galaxy Watch app installed. If you do not have the app, you can download it on the App Store. Once you get the app, follow these steps:

  1. First, turn on the Bluetooth for both devices. Make sure that the smartwatch is not connected to other phones.
  2. On the app, select the ‘start the journey button.
  3. Then, pick the watch that you want to pair. This refers to the model of the watch that you will be using. Keep the watch within the vicinity when pairing it.
  4. Pairing requests will show on both devices. Confirm the pairing by clicking ‘pair’ on the iPhone and the orange button on the watch.
  5. After the pairing is finished, review and click ‘agree’ on permission requests. This includes access to notifications, contacts, and messages.
  6. From here, you can now explore your watch.

Supported and Unsupported Features

Since you will be using different devices, some features are not supported. Although, these lapses are reasonable and can be quickly resolved. Regarding text messaging and emails, you can still receive notifications. Yet, you can not reply to any of it, and you need to use your phone to type in your response.

In addition, Samsung and Apple have their voice assistants. Bixby for Samsung and Siri for Apple. You can both summon them, except that Siri will only respond on the iPhone. Bixby, on the other hand, can do simple tasks through the watch. When it comes to apps, there will be some that will not be available. The App Store is not fully functioning when connected with a Samsung Watch.

Nevertheless, a good amount of supported features is at hand. It can serve its purpose as a fitness tracker because of the access to health features. You can still monitor your heart rate and sleep, and you may need the help of the Samsung Health app to view the data. Plus, you will not have any trouble when receiving calls and playing music.

Galaxy Watch 4

In 2021, the company released their newest Samsung Watch, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. The Watch 4 is said to be more on the active side. While the Watch 4 Classic will look good as smartwatches for women because of its pleasing aesthetics. Sadly, these versions will not work with an iPhone, and this is because they will run with Wear OS 3, which has some features only available on android phones. Still, the previous Galaxy Watches are not affected and work fine.

Despite the tight competition in the tech industry, there can still be harmony among the companies, like how a Samsung Watch can be paired with an iPhone. They are from two tech giants wanting to be the best in their field. Yet, people find their products functional with each other.
